Tree CuttingTree cutting can refer to a few things. In one sense it can refer to cutting down trees in tree removal or tree felling. Tree removal is commonly known as cutting down a tree. One of the common ways of doing this is tree felling. Tree felling involves cutting the tree at it's base and allowing it to fall under it's own weight. After the tree is felled it is either chopped up for wood or firewood or used for wood chips.
Though it seems like a simple tree felling is actually a complex process that involves much skill and planning. Felling a tree involves many hazards and much can go wrong. A felled tree can hit other trees or object on it's way down throwing them back into the feller. To avoid this, feller must be careful not to turn his back on the tree while it falls and always look ahead toward the escape route. The tree could fall on uneven ground, stumps or rocks. Obstacles have to be cleared away or the felling direction changed. A tree could be lodged having not fallen completely or leaned against another tree, requiring the tree to be pushed or pulled out of the way. Limbs could break off the tree and hang unattached in the the tree to be felled or in close by trees, requiring the tree to be taken down with a bulldozer or other machine. Structurally unstable trees such as dead or rotted trees could stand in the path of the tree to be felled. This requires that tree to have fall path of at least two tree lengths if it is felled. A felled tree could also fall onto a tree limb or a sapling loading it like a spring that could whip out and cause serious injury. In that case the limb or sapling needs to be cut in order to release the tension and neutralize the threat. Beyond the myriad hazards involved in tree felling there is also a lot of expertise involved in applying cuts in the right place in order to get the tree to fall in the right direction safely. When a tree is leaning in the direction it is meant to fall this process is fairly straightforward, when it is not there are many considerations that need to be made like the angle of the back cut, face cut, nearby trees. the degree of the lean and much more. Tree cutting can also refer to other kinds of tree removal, like that using a bucket truck or crane or climbers. There are several strategies when cutting trees down and which is employed depends on several factors. Perhaps the most important factor is how much space there is to get to the tree. If there is little space, as is often the case in densely populated areas, it will be hard or impossible to maneuver a crane or bucket truck to begin cutting the tree, in those situations it is can be best to use climbers. |
